The Medical Record Transcription program prepares students for employment as a medical record transcriptionist. The curriculum includes the following major skill areas:
- Medical terminology
- Anatomy and physiology
- Grammar and punctuation
- Health care delivery systems
- Health information services
- Legal and ethical responsibilities
- Safety/security procedures
- Computer/transcription skills
- Employability skills and entrepreneurship.
Medical Transcriptionists are individuals who type dictated medical reports that document a patient’s medical care. These may include office chart notes, history and physical examinations, consultations, letters, memos, admission notes, operative reports, discharge summaries, and diagnostic study reports. High professional standards contribute to the Medical Record transcriptionist’s ability to interpret, translate, and edit medical dictation for content and clarity.
Credit from the program is transferable to Broward College towards a degree in Health Information Management or Office Systems Technology.
