Applied Academics for Adult Education (AAAE):
The Applied Academics for Adult Education (AAAE) program is under the umbrella of Adult General Education (AGE). AAAE provides basic skills remediation and the integration of academic skills into career and technical instruction. The online classroom is designed to provide a comprehensive academic support program equipped with a variety of instructional materials and resources. The AAAE program is open entry, open exit thus allowing a student to complete the program when he/she meets their Basic Skills Requirement. Once completion of the AAAE program is verified the student is referred to Student Services and the appropriate guidance counselor. A copy of the students verification forms are given to the counselor, the school vault, registration, program instructor, the AAAE department, and the student.
A student may register for AAAE with a score of 6.0 or above on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). TABE scores are good for two years.
AAAE instruction provides individualized basic skills related instruction to educationally disadvantaged students (including individuals with Limited English Proficiency) whose basic skills deficiencies may prevent success in career and technical preparatory programs or prevent completion of licensure in a career and technical preparatory program of their choice. The program strives to inspire and motivate students to become productive, self-sufficient members of society. Instruction is individualized based upon the assessed needs of each student and the academic and employability requirements related to Florida’s comprehensive Career and Technical Education programs.
This program is competency based, thus completion time depends on the progress made by each individual student. Instructors ensure that opportunities are provided for students to achieve their maximum potential in a minimum amount of time. The AAAE instructors maintain a student instructor ratio of 20-1.
AAAE encompasses a combination of the following instructional components:
• AAAE Basic Skills Related Instruction
• Reading
• Language
• Mathematics
• Basic Computer Literacy
